LED Lights – Current Home Applications

LED lights appeared in the 60s but just recently have been used for home lighting applications for space lighting. Basically a LED is a semiconductor device which converts electricity into light. Obviously there’s more to it than that though.

Currently, LED lights, or Light Emitting Diodes are not appropriate for house wide lighting use. By design, LED lights are directional, meaning their light doesn’t spread all that well. That said, there are still pros to replacing some home lighting with LED lights.

  • LED bulbs burn cooler; a point that can help prevent fires.
  • LED burns more efficiently than incandescent, which saves energy and money. The monetary savings may be cut though, depending on where you get your lights. You can find them for the same cost as incandescents, but not always.
  • LED lighting is durable. Consumer Reports recently compared one of the more well known LED applications, , to regular incandescent bulbs. The LED bulbs far out-performed the incandescent. Research on small home LED light applications show the same.
  • LED lighting is healthier for the environment.

So, where can you use LED bulbs in your home. Most current research suggests that LED lights work best for small spaces, or places where you may need close-in direct light. Keep in mind that this is because LED lights burn in a more muted fashion, you’re not going to get bright light like you will with other choices.

Personally, I like the more muted look of LED, but if you need extra bright light outside, LED is not what you want. The best you can do is try. You can always replace a light.

China’s DOOH Market Valued over 1.4 Billion Yuan

Analysis International recently released a report stating that in the second quarter of 2010, the value of the Chinese DOOH advertising market reached 1.46 billion yuan. The chain index rose 12.7% from the last quarter, but fell 8.7% compared to the same period last year.

        Analysis International believes that some market segments have not escaped the downturn in the marketplace, and as a whole the rebound in the market is not strong, with market size in this quarter not meeting the level of the same period last year. The future prospects of the DOOH advertising market are expected to be revealed in the second half of the year as China’s macro-economic state improves.

        Analysis said that Focus Media have isolated cinema business from the business premises network, so Analysis International has modified the definition of the various market segments, under which cinema channels will be classified into other categories. Thus public transport and subway sector have topped the market share this quarter at 33.3%, with a robust performance.

        The large LED market has achieved a better performance this quarter with a growth of 11.3% in its share,  as a result of a much higher amount of investment being put into Q2 by its advertisers compared to Q1, closely related to the significant increase in promotional discounts by major carriers, as well as the slow rebound of economy.

        The current market shows a significant increase of infiltration in electronic screen media operators and traditiona media operators, especially in aviation, subway, commercial streets, railway and other channels where commercial value is particularly high.
